A country
manor nestled in the New Tabor community of Burleson County; Rosewood is named
in memory of Dr. Robert E. Basye, noted researcher and hybridizer of roses. Dr.
Basye's lifetime study of roses earned him an induction to the Horticulture Hall
of Fame. Many of the roses he developed are famous today. "Belinda's Dream" and
"Basye's Purple Rose" are two of the most loved and prolific.
The open meadows were once
filled with antique roses, surrounded by woods of Oak and Cedar. The
roses of the field have been removed to the Texas A & M University
test gardens. Dr. Basye endowed a Chair in Rose Genetics at the
University in hopes that his work would continue long after he was
gone, and so it has. His home, Rosebud Cottage, has
become an enchanting bed and breakfast.
Dr. Alvin J. Kutach and his wife, Honey, now live on the property.
ROSEWOOD, the Kutach home, was built in 2003. Rosewood is
a favorite Special Events Country Manor available for dinners, showers,
weddings, conferences and other very special occasions.
Visitors
are welcome to the grounds and the greenhouses and may schedule
visits through the Tourism Committee of the Burleson County Chamber
of Commerce (979) 567-0000. Admission varies on size of tour group.
